Our department recently took a short break from the laboratory to enjoy a teambuilding evening at the billiard hall. As physicists, we could not resist “verifying” some of the most fundamental principles of physics, including linear and angular momentum conservation laws. Forget simulations – we were putting theory to the test with real balls, real cues, and plenty of laughter! While our experimental setups might not have been perfectly controlled, it was a fantastic way to see conservation laws in action (and occasionally witness the unpredictable beauty of collisions). It was a welcome change of pace and a great way to build camaraderie – even if some of our shots were… less than textbook perfect!
