In this talk, I will discuss the challenges regarding the interpretation of the dielectric spectra of the recently discovered polar nematic liquid crystalline phases. After a short review about how dielectric spectroscopy can provide valuable information about the molecular and collective dynamics in these systems, I will present the results obtained in our group for three representative materials and relate them to the available theoretical models.
